Most students never finish college

Here's a fact for you: if you rounded up 100,000 people in a large room, only a handful of them would possess an undergraduate degree. This fact may seem confusing considering how often higher education is advocated today and how many people are going to school; however, people don't realize that close to half of those individuals who attend college never graduate.

Why people never get their undergraduate degree

The reasons for this are many and usually depend on the student, but generally, many people never get their undergraduate degree because it is expensive and they don't want the burden of student loan debt, or they are undisciplined and apply themselves poorly in class. Some never finish their undergraduate degree for the simple fact that it is a lengthy process; requiring at least four years of schooling, and in some cases, six years.

Undergraduate degrees provide opportunities

Attaining an undergraduate degree is no easy task, which is why so few people have one. It takes dedication and discipline to stay focused on studies, but even more, it requires that a student have an inner desire to succeed in life and be successful. This is not to say that individuals with only a high school education can't be successful—they can, but possessing an undergraduate degree makes the road to success much easier to travel and opens up a wide range of options; whereas a high school diploma limits most people to working in certain industries.

Two popular degree types

Undergraduate degrees generally come in two different forms; a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and a Bachelor of Science Degree. Both are difficult to obtain. The only difference between them is that the former degree represents studies such as English and Theatre, while the latter degree represents studies such as Business and Science. Earning power may be more in favor of a Bachelor's of Science Degree, but if you apply yourself and work hard a Bachelor of Arts degree can be just as lucrative. Either way, an undergraduate degree can be one of your greatest assets in obtaining a well-paying job.
