The thought of paying for a college education can be daunting. However, by simply taking the step to fill out a FAFSA then you will receive many options to help you pay for college and receive the education you want. There are financial aid options for everyone so you should never just assume you won't qualify.

Merit in academics, athletics or certain fields of study is often rewarded with scholarships. Scholarships can be based on either past performance in high school or on future performance in the college you will be attending. There are private scholarships that are offered for a variety of reasons. Each scholarship will offer a varying amount of money and student's will often have to do some research on the internet to find the perfect scholarship for themselves. Another option is to ask your local college about the possible scholarship opportunities for you.

Much of a students financial aid comes from the government. Almost 90 percent of financial aid comes from grants awarded by the government. This is another form of financial aid that doesn't have to be paid back like scholarships. The Pell Grant is the largest grant program in the United States and is accepted at any college. Students who are eligible will automatically receive the amount they qualify for after filling out the FAFSA.

Next there are loans which fit almost every need of students and make up 65 percent of the financial aid every year. Eventually these loans will have to be paid back, but for some students this is the only option to a college education. Without loans many students wouldn't be able to pay for college. By filling out the FAFSA you will also be able to find out which loans you qualify for and how much you are eligible to receive.
